Jewellery Outlook hosted a webinar entitled “‘WE ARE Jewellery’ – the digital event that celebrates the ‘Made in Italy’ art of manufacturing”, on Thursday March 18, 2021.
Italy’s IEG Group will stage the virtual “WE ARE” event on March 23, celebrating cutting-edge “Made in Italy” creations from leading goldsmithing centres. The webinar, hosted by Jewellery Outlook Editor David Brough, featured Marco Carniello, IEG Group’s Brand Director, Jewellery & Fashion.

In the below interview with Jewellery Outlook, Marco Carniello outlines what WE ARE will bring for international buyers and how the digital event will harness the latest technologies to showcase “Made in Italy” creativity in jewellery and fashion.
How will WE ARE show off the design excellence, craftsmanship skills and quality control reflected in “Made in Italy” jewellery?
WE ARE, which recalls what we see at the Fashion Weeks, is a brand new project that mixes a variety of innovations and digital tools: from a web integrated platform (the Jewellery Golden Cloud) to 360 videos of the jewels.
In the last 2 years at IEG we have been developing many new tools to enrich our shows and now we are starting to implement them across many of our events and initiatives.
What types of technologies and videos will you be using to show off the jewellery to maximum effect?
As in our shows, first comes the inspiration. Buyers need to get inspired to make the right selection of products. So every collection will be featured in high-quality videos (jewellery frame), really like short movies.
In a click the buyer will be able to focus on a particular jewel and watch it on a technical 360-video. With just an extra click the buyer can get connected to the producer of that jewel.
Is WE ARE a celebration of all of the leading Italian goldsmithing centres? Will Arezzo play a lead role in the show?
WE ARE is promoting all jewellery Made in Italy. Arezzo is playing a pivotal role, not only because it is one of the biggest production districts, but also because of its links with fashion.
Arezzo is not far from Florence (where many fashion brands have their HQs) and in its city centre you find one of the most beautiful fashion boutiques in the world, SUGAR, in the historic Lambardi palace, an artistic treasure of the city where we have organised our movie set.
How will the communications between international buyers and WE ARE work? How will buyers make their orders?
Buyers are in touch with our team both directly and through our communications channels. On top of that, the Italian Trade Agency is strongly supporting WE ARE promotion through its offices around the world.
On the Jewellery Golden Cloud platform buyers will easily chat or video-chat with the producers.
What are your hopes and ambitions for the staging of the next IEG trade show, at Vicenzaoro in September? Do you expect this to be a hybrid event, featuring the presence of international buyers in-person, given the ongoing success of the vaccines rollout across the world?
The vaccination progress will allow us to plan again for a show with buyers taking part in-person and from many countries.
We hope that from September supply and demand finally will meet again physically, although the digital side of our events will stay to create even bigger business opportunities for our exhibitors.
What is your vision for the future of international jewellery trade fairs post Covid-19?
We can’t wait to organise physical events again! The companies and buyers themselves are asking for it and we will provide it for them — not only for the jewellery sector but also for other industries – physical plus digital, and all-year round.
