The International Jewellery Design Excellence Awards is a design competition that invites champions from around the world to take part – in order to be able to compete, each designer must have already won a jewellery award elsewhere.

Zhuang’s winning piece – Urban Reflection – incorporates Hong Kong’s world-renowned skyline in a set of four rings, depicting the city’s diverse architecture with ultra-modern skyscrapers juxtaposed against historical buildings. The rings can be worn together to form a picture of the iconic skyline with reflection.

Speaking after receiving the award, Sarah Zhuang, founder of the eponymous jewellery brand Sarah Zhuang Jewellery, said: “My collections celebrate modern women, with each piece crafted to tell a story of strength, aspiration and confidence. I’m delighted and honoured to have received this award for creativity and design innovation.”

All of Sarah Zhuang Jewellery collections are hand-crafted and designed to personify a unique trait of contemporary women. Her jewellery is made in 18ct gold and set with diamonds and precious gemstones, with each piece designed to be worn in multiple ways.

Born into a family that has worked within the jewellery trade for more than 20 years, Sarah has lived and breathed design from a young age. Fuelled by her passion for jewellery craftsmanship, she received her design certificate from the GIA and a professional diploma from Hong Kong Design Institute, before studying in Florence, Italy, to further hone her skills in jewellery design and making.

In 2017, she launched her own eponymous brand, which Sarah describes as “as versatile as women”. The brand is already stocked in retailers in the UK, Hong Kong, China and Japan and Zhuang has also been shortlisted in the Young Designer of the Year category at the UK Jewellery Awards 2019.
