Shirley Temple blue diamond ring fails to sell
April 2016 – A 9.54-carat fancy deep blue diamond ring that had belonged to Shirley Temple failed to sell at a Sotheby’s auction in New York on April 19.
The ring was purchased by Temple’s father for $7,210 in 1940 and had been estimated to sell for up to $35 million.
“The Shirley Temple Blue Diamond is an exceptional stone in quality, rarity and provenance. It has been an honour to share its story,” Sotheby’s said.
“Unfortunately, tonight wasn’t its night in the salesroom, but we remain fully confident that it will find a buyer.”
