Sotheby’s sets world auction record for fancy vivid pink diamond

HONG KONG, October 2014 – Sotheby’s sold a vivid purple-pink diamond ring mounted by Sotheby’s Diamonds at the Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale in Hong Kong on October 7, 2014, for $17.8 million (HK$137.88 million), setting a world auction record for a fancy vivid pink diamond.

An Asian private buyer acquired the ring.
Two consecutive per-carat price records for Kashmir sapphire were also achieved: first with the Cartier sapphire ring at US$193,975 per carat, and then again with a sapphire and diamond ring at US$236,404 per carat.
The highly anticipated Ballerina Butterfly brooch co-designed by Cindy Chao and Sarah Jessica Parker to benefit the New York City Ballet achieved HK$9.4 million.
The entire sale totalled US$75 Million.
