Strong results for period jewels at Christie’s auction
LONDON, December 15, 2012 – Christie’s London auction on December 12 saw strong results for signed and period jewels, diamonds and coloured gems, with some Art Deco pieces selling at big multiples of their estimates.
“The property of an Italian private collector and the traditional Cartier section both exceeded their pre-sale expectations,” said Keith Penton, head of Christie’s London Jewellery Department.

“The unusual Art Deco bracelet by Van Cleef & Arpels was one of many jewels that sparked fierce competition, achieving £289,250 against an estimate of £30,000-50,000.”
The strength of the market for natural pearls continues, as demonstrated by an important natural pearl necklace which sold for more than £580,000, becoming the top
lot of the sale.
