Thailand’s Gem and Jewelry Institute (GIT) Invites Entries for Jewelry Design Awards

May 2018 – The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) invites designers worldwide to compete for a cash prize of USD 9,000 (or over THB 300,000) in the 12th edition of the international jewelry design contest under the theme of ‘The Pearl of Wisdom – Illumination from under the Surface’.

Submissions are open until May 28, 2018.

Ms. Duangkamol Jiambutr, Director of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand, or GIT, says the institute has been organizing this annual international jewelry design contest regularly: this year is the 12th edition.

This activity is part of GIT’s strategy to encourage talented people to enter the gems and jewelry industry.
GIT This contest is a challenge for designers of all levels, from students, young designers to professional designers where they will have an opportunity to show their creativity and imagination to design jewelry that will be shown to the public in Thailand and beyond.

GIT believes that the contest will encourage designers to keep producing creative jewelry designs.

“This year the contest is held under the theme of ‘The Pearl of Wisdom – Illumination from under the Surface’ as we would like to promote pearls to become more widely recognized,” said Ms Duangkamol.

“Contestants must utilize pearl or mother of pearl as the centerpiece of the jewelry design,” she added.

“Moreover, the design must be able to be manufactured and sold, which will create further opportunities for a career in jewelry production.”

GIT will announce the winners of the contest on September 10, 2018 and the design of the finalists will be made into jewelry to be exhibited at the 62nd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair that will be held from September 7 to 11, 2018 at Challenger Hall, IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani.

In this competition, winners will receive a total of USD 9,000 in prize money or over THB 300,000 with a trophy from Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol.

Awards will be divided into two categories: the award from the decision of judges, and the Popular Design Award 2018 that is open for the public to vote from the 20 top designs through the official website.

Contestants may submit their design that is under the designated theme in the format of colored drawings (open to any technique) or computer renderings.

The submission may be in physical copies or digital files to be sent to the Training Department, the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization), 140, 140/1-3, 140/5 at ITF Tower, 3rd floor, Silom Rd., Suriwongse, Bangrak, Bangkok 10500 until May 28, 2018.
