The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) or GIT invites Thai and foreign designers to showcase their creativity by submitting their jewellery designs to compete in GIT’s World Jewelry Design Award 2020.

Applications must be submitted by 30th June, 2020.

This year, the contestants must design jewellery under the theme of “Beyond Jewelry: Artistic Elegance of Gems”, where their products should be extraordinary pieces without limits in terms of the material used.

The designers are allowed to freely express their imagination to create exquisite and valuable designs combined with functionality.

Mrs. Duangkamol Jiambut, Director of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand, said this contest is different from last year as there are no limits on the types of gemstones that can be used, allowing the artists and designers to fully express their creativity. They can also make use of new materials, such as wood, plastic, resin, embroidery techniques and other innovations.

“Today jewellery is more than just an accessory and should serve a functional purpose. We expect to see new and extraordinary designs that can be developed into products that can be sold,” she said.

“GIT, together with its partners, will produce jewellery from the designs that made it to the final round and exhibit them at the 66th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair in September 2020.”

This contest has a total prize value of 9,500 USD. The winner will receive a cash prize of 4,000 USD with a commemorative plaque, the 1st runner-up will receive a cash prize of 3,000 USD with a commemorative plaque, the 2nd runner-up will receive a cash prize of 1,500 USD with a commemorative plaque, and there will be one consolation prize of 1,000 USD with a commemorative plaque.
