Tiara and Kashmir sapphire brooch outperform at Sotheby’s Geneva

A magnificent royal tiara passed down through generations of the royal family of Italy, soared to CHF 1.5m / $1.6m at Sotheby’s Geneva today – one of the highest prices paid for a tiara in recent years.

Moments before, a 55.19-carat Kashmir sapphire – the largest gem of its kind to ever appear at auction – sold as part of a brooch, for CHF 3.5m ($3.9m).

Both jewels were presented in the Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels: Part I sale which totalled CHF 50.4 / $56 million.

Participants came from 38 countries from around the world and 70% of them chose to bid online.
