IJL launches watch area for 2011

IJL, International Jewellery London, new dedicated watch area, Sam Willoughby, Event Director


LONDON, April 11, 2011 – In response to visitor feedback from IJL 2010, International Jewellery London has announced it will introduce a new dedicated watch area for watch manufacturers and distributors at the 2011 show.
“From conversations with our show visitors and influential industry contacts, we have noted the demand for a dedicated watch area,” said Sam Willoughby, Event Director at IJL.
“We have featured watch exhibitors in the past within our other show destinations and believe a clearly defined zone for this sector will further enhance IJL’s offering for our visitors.”
Market research company GfK Retail and Technology recently announced that UK watch sales hit 912 million pounds in 2010, suggesting a positive growth in this market.
Both multiples and department store retailers have seen year on year rises in sales figures and numbers of units sold.
As a result, overall trading was reported as positive – with the exception of a dip in sales for the Christmas period due to heavy snow in December, which was a similar story across many sectors.
Jonathan Hedges, Product Manager at GfK Retail and Technology UK, will present a seminar on the watch sector at the 2011 show, as part of IJL’s high profile complementary seminar programme.
Exhibitors confirmed to date in the new watch area include brands such as Since 1853 and Classic Time who are set to showcase their latest collections.
