Gold prices have rallied to near a seven-year peak in a flight to safety by investors, while many other assets have tumbled since the coronavirus outbreak.

Physical gold is proving hard to source, jewellers say, driving up premiums.

Silver prices have lagged gold but some see the high gold:silver price ratio as a signal that silver prices could potentially break out to the upside.

Polished diamond prices fell in March, impacted by coronavirus, according to the Rapaport Group who set a widely followed price list.

Some diamond industry players have protested at the price cut announcement and called for the creation of alternative online pricing platforms.
