Weston Beamor to display hi-tech equipment at IJL
July 2012 – Designers and retailers looking for ways to add an exciting new dimension to their jewellery will be interested by Weston Beamor’s latest piece of high-tech equipment which will make its first public appearance on the company’s stand at this year’s International Jewellery London.
The 3D scanner, which sits on a desk top and is more usually found in the dental industry, creates a high resolution image file of the object. Once scanned the 3D replica can be manipulated in the CAD software.
For example, the original can be mirrored to create a pair of cufflinks, or scaled in size to make a pendant or charm. The resulting CAD model can then be used to create a perfect replica in either wax or resin using Weston Beamor’s rapid prototyping service.
“This is a tremendously useful piece of kit,” says Ed Hole, Weston Beamor’s Head of CAD and Rapid Prototyping.
“It can be used for imaginative projects, or for purely practical purposes such as scanning a customer’s existing engagement ring contour to ensure that a wedding band can be created to a perfect fit.
“It opens up a huge range of possibilities and we look forward to working on new and creative 3D scanning projects with our customers.“
