LONDON – Jewellers joined an event staged at the India High Commission on July 15, 2026, to celebrate the entry into force of the UK-India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA.)

Dozens of jewellery wholesalers and retailers, including many from the British Asian jewellery community, witnessed the cutting of a huge cake by the Indian High Commissioner, Periasamy Kumaran.

Traders anticipate a growing offer of “Made in India” manufactured jewellery and gemstones to the UK retail market, aided by shows such as the inaugural Asiana Jewellery Expo, which took place in mid-June, and the UK-India GJEPC Buyer-Seller Meet, which wrapped up last week.

Gemstones and jewellery are one of India’s leading export tranches, worth in excess of USD $40 billion a year, with the UK seen as a leading growth market for gold, silver and diamond- and gemstone-set jewellery made in India.

The highly liberalised CETA is expected to boost bilateral trade between the world’s fifth and sixth largest economies, which share longstanding cultural ties.
